DESIGNING NEXT GENERATION NANOSTRUCTURED WELD OVERLAYS AND THERMAL SPRAY MATERIALS TO MEET NEXT GENERATION CHALLENGES FOR IMPACT, CORROSION, AND WEAR

One of our innovations is in the field of Nanotechnology in wear control. Utilizing nanocrystalline materials as weld overlay materials offers many potential benefits such as the inherent tendency for nanomaterials to be harder, tougher, and more resistant to corrosion than conventional materials. We work in partnership with San Diego University of California to derive a methodology for designing new generation weld overlay materials using computational metallurgy. The described techniques allow for materials to be precisely designed to suite specific applications. The unique computational metallurgical techniques allow a high degree in automation in the design of new materials to meet performance criteria - allowing for rapid and precise development for wear control against impact, corrosion, and extreme wear.
